Ringtone Maker

Use as Ringtone Not Showing on iPhone? 6 Fixes

The Use as Ringtone option in the Share menu only appears for some files in some places. Here is what usually hides it, in the order worth checking.

1. Your iPhone isn't on iOS 26

The option arrived with iOS 26. Check Settings › General › About › iOS Version. On iOS 18 or earlier, use the GarageBand route instead.

2. The clip is longer than 30 seconds

iOS shows an error for longer files rather than adding them. Cut the part you want with the ringtone maker, which caps the length at 30 seconds.

3. You're sharing from the wrong place

Sharing a song from a web page or from Safari's preview often shows the normal menu only. Save the file first, open it in the Files app (or Voice Memos for a recording) and share from there.

4. It's hidden under More

Scroll to the bottom of the Share menu and tap More or Edit Actions. Use as Ringtone can sit there. Add it to Favorites so it shows at the top next time.

5. The file is protected or not really audio

Apple Music and Spotify downloads are copy-protected and won't work. A video file may also be skipped; run it through the ringtone maker to get a plain MP3 of its sound.

6. Files is stuck

Close the Files app from the app switcher and open it again.

Use as Ringtone still not showing?

If the file is under 30 seconds, plain audio, opened in Files and the iPhone is on iOS 26, restart the phone and try once more. Some people only see the option after the first restart following the update.

It worked, but the tone isn't in the list

Look at the top of Settings › Sounds & Haptics › Ringtone, above the built-in tones. If it isn't there, add it again; re-sharing a file with the same name sometimes replaces the earlier one.
